Sometimes the greatest adventures are the ones closest to home. Taking a break doesn’t always have to mean taking off.

For Sydney mum Kristine Tan, spending a couple of days exploring the forest and coastal playgrounds right on her family’s doorstep was the perfect way to play tourist in her own city.

“I love going away on trips, even if it is a short one,” Kristine says.

“It just helps break away from the business and monotony of everyday life.”

The family – Kristine, her husband and baby Jeremiah- took the MINI Countryman to the Cumberland State Forest for a picnic, before heading to Vaucluse to visit Diamond Bay.

“I heard great things about the food, views and beautiful coastal walk at Diamond Bay,” she says.

Travelling with small baby can be tricky- but Kristine says the Countryman comfortably carried all of Jeremiah’s toys, pram and baby seat, as well as luggage for an overnight stay, overnight bags and picnic rugs and baskets.

“I wanted to make sure I didn’t forget to bring all the important stuff, but also had the room in the car to fit it all,” Kristine says.

“Our priority is also looking after our baby and making sure he’s comfortable.”

Kristine says the little touches that make the Countryman so family friendly – Isofix for the baby seat, comfortable seats and generous leg room- made all the difference.

Driving to the coast was a breeze because of the compact size and smooth handling of the Countryman,” she says.

A short, but busy couple of days on the road was just what the family needed, Kristine says, and was an opportunity to spend some family time together.

“Just seeing our baby get all excited whenever he’d see a new place and a new experience was quite memorable,” she says.
